Astronomy, telescopes and educational toys

Telescopes are wonderful educational toys, not only for your child - the whole family can join in and try to beat the others in spotting new things in the sky. Since your kid probably has better eyes than you, he/she will usually win. That's the educational part of astronomy for you (wide grin)!

Using the telescopes at different times enables you and your child to see how the skies change. Check the sky before it gets dark , when the sun goes down, and just before it gets really dark. After dark, you can look around the sky, checking out the stars and the moon, which may even have a red ring around it.

Looking through a telescope you'll discover many new things. Look at the planets Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, Earth, Venus, Neptune, Saturn, and Pluto. Find and explore the Milky Way, or check up on Comet McNaught. Take your time marveling at all the star clusters that the telescope enables the kid and you to see. Within reason, there's hardly an age limit for the enjoyment of the telescope as an educational toy.
